What is a Reiki Healing?
Reiki & How It Works
Reiki is a Japanese energy healing technique that promotes body, mind, and soul wellness. This gentle, yet powerful style of healing stimulates the body’s natural healing process by keeping one’s energy field balanced and removing energy blockages. Reiki has been proven to benefit those suffering from virtually any type of disease or illness, improve mental and emotional health, and increase spiritual well being. It can aid in the management and recovery of anything from diabetes, high blood pressure, anxiety, PTSD, depression, addiction, insomnia, bruises, scrapes, broken bones, to past lives and karmic issues. Reiki healings can be done in conjunction with any medical treatments to assist in recovery and overall health.

Reiki is composed of two words- Rei and Ki. Rei, depending on your belief, refers to “God,” “Higher Power,” or “Spirit.” Ki means “life force energy.” This is the energy that flows throughout one’s body and outward to create the human energy field, or aura. When the flow of Ki is blocked, physical disease or illness results. These blockages are a result of our negative thoughts and emotions. It has been scientifically proven time and time again that our thoughts have a direct affect on our physical condition. Once our Ki is clear and balanced, our mental state heightens and our physical state improves. Reiki appropriately mean life force energy being directed by God or Spirit. Thus, this energy is pure love, and is always delivered to the areas that need healing.
Types of Reiki
The energy used in Reiki treatments has been used in healings for thousands of years. The specific Reiki practice we use today, however, was developed in 1922 by Dr. Mikao Usui. Usui Reiki is thus the root form of all other Reiki techniques. Since Reiki is a direct link to source energy, it is limitless in its potential. This has manifested in various forms of energy and techniques coming forward.

Karuna Reiki® is a very gentle, very deep, and very powerful form of Reiki healing. Karuna means “compassionate action,” and allows us to quickly clear energy blockages to promote healing on the soul and cellular levels. Karuna Reiki is incredibly beneficial to healing the effects of trauma, as well as offering deep physical, emotional, and past life/karmic healing. It also allows us to connect to our Divine self to bring about positive change in the most loving of ways. This is personally my favorite form of Reiki.

Crystal Reiki, as it sounds, combines the healing energies of crystals and Reiki. Crystals hold different energetic frequencies that allow for specific types of healing. This practice of crystal healing can be traced back to early civilizations. By combining this with Reiki, the energetic effects of the crystals are increased. Crystals will be placed on or around you as the Reiki flows into the crystals, then into your energy field. The type and amount of crystals used is dependent upon the needs of the client.

Distance Reiki is a technique that allows a practitioner to perform a healing without the client physically being present. Energy transcends space and time, thus distance does not serve as an obstacle in performing a healing. Clients may experience physical sensations as the healing progresses, just as they would during an in-person healing. This type of session is ideal for those that do not live near the practitioner or cannot meet in person. Due to the practicioner directly connecting to the client's energy field, it is very common for these healings to occur much quicker than an in-person session.
What to Expect During a Healing
A Reiki healing is performed as a practitioner moves through various hand positions 2-3 inches above the client, where the human energy field lies. My hands will begin above your head, and move down your arms, torso, legs, and feet. Depending on what is needed, each position may be held for a moment or a few minutes. Life force energy will flow through my hands and be directed to the appropriate areas. Treatments are typically done lying down, but you are welcome to be seated if needed. You will remain fully clothed.
It is common to feel warmth or tingling during the treatment as the energy enters your body. You may feel the need to expel emotions. This is perfectly normal and welcome. Clients often feel relaxed and light after a healing. Some may experience a detox as toxins and negative energies are released from the body. It is always recommended to honor what your body is asking of you following a session. Drink plenty of water, eat cleanly, and take a nap if inclined so your body can recover.
A follow up appointment may or may not be needed. This will be discussed at the end of the session. A Reiki healing once per month to once every other month is usually recommended to maintain full body, mind, and soul wellness, but always listen to your body and intuition.
